Worst nightmare: Just now The Detroit Lions’ Legend Calvin Johnson pass away at 38….RIP

It took Tracy Walker a minute to find a new home, but the former Detroit Lions captain and multi-year starter will now have the chance to stick with the San Francisco 49ers.

The Athletic reports Walker worked out for the 49ers earlier on Wednesday, and the team plans to sign the veteran after parting ways with defensive back Erik Harris.

Walker brings a ton of experience to the equation, with 43 starts and 79 games played over the previous six seasons while still being younger than 30.

Walker had a breakout 2021 campaign for Detroit’s new regime and staff, earning a new three-year contract in the process, but then a season-ending Achilles injury ended his 2022 campaign after only three games.

While the 2018 third-round pick was back on the field for 17 games last season, he started only six times, then was relegated to special teams to end the campaign, and was inactive for the team’s three postseason games, including the NFC title in SF.

“I think that Tracy’s done a great job with that, and I really respect and admire it,” Lions special teams coordinator Dave Fipp said of Walker’s role in December.

“I know it’s what he’s supposed to do, but it’s not easy. He does it with a smile on his face.

He’s into it, he’s trying, he’s trying to get better.

And I definitely appreciate and respect that. I don’t think it’s easy for him. I think playing on special teams is difficult.

I think there’s some startup time for it. And I think the more you play at it, just like anything, the better you get.

So, obviously, he’s new to it. He hasn’t done much of it throughout his career. But I definitely admire and respect what he’s done for us.”
