New York Giants

Sad News From New York Giants…

The New York Giants have a lot of work to do this off-season after a 6-11 season, which pretty much exposed some glaring roster issues the team has.

General manager Joe Schoen, head coach Brian Daboll, and the rest of the football operations team are thought to be hard at work in identifying what exactly went wrong in 2023 and how to ensure there is no repeat.

Already, Daboll has started the process of reshaping his coaching staff.

Schoen, meanwhile, has been working with his staff to figure out which players to keep, which ones to move on from, and how to fill the gaps (draft or free agency).

Every coaching position is important, but for the Giants, choosing their next defensive coordinator is especially important for many reasons.

First, Wink Martindale, who mutually parted ways with the Giants, was well-liked by his players for putting them in a position to find success.

Martindale had a larger-than-life personality yet was the very picture of calm.

And his willingness to live and die by being aggressive struck a chord in his players’ hearts.

The question for head coach Brian Daboll now becomes, does he go for a Martindale clone in terms of defensive philosophy (minus, of course, any insubordination that might have been present)?

Does he go in a different direction? Does he consider switching to a 4-3 base instead of the long-time 3-4 the Giants have run for the last several years?

The answers are important not just for the defense but for Daboll, as it’s widely believed that if the team plans to draft a new quarterback, Daboll will need someone he can trust and feel comfortable running the defense.
