Chase Elliott vs Joe Gibbs Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2025?
With an official announcement scheduled for Tuesday, Chase Briscoe has emerged as the front-runner to take Martin Truex Jr.’s seat behind the wheel of Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 19 Toyota during the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season.
Of the four drivers who will be leaving Stewart-Haas Racing next year, Briscoe is the only one with any career victories. The other three drivers will be searching for new teams.
When Truex, the oldest full-time driver in the sport, retires at the end of the 2024 season, Christopher Bell, who has been a member of Joe Gibbs’ Cup Series team since 2021, will play a leadership role in the team’s future.
In 2025, Bell will tie Denny Hamlin for the second-longest tenure among team drivers. Once Truex officially hangs up his helmet, Hamlin will be the oldest competitor in the series. In 2023, Ty Gibbs, the other driver on the team, received a promotion from the Xfinity Series.
In responding to the query, Bell unintentionally disclosed that “Chase” will be joining the team in 2025. He almost instantly became aware of the information he had disclosed.
Everything is official until it’s official, but it seems clear that Briscoe will be driving the No. 19 Toyota come season-opening.
Though Bell only said “Chase,” many jokes have suggested that he might have been referring to Chase Elliott of Hendrick Motorsports.
Kyle Larson, a teammate at Hendrick Motorsports, joked that he wished Elliott “the best on his new adventure.”
