Ron Rivera constructed a dumpster fire of a roster over his four years here, and the 2024 Washington Commanders witnessed a ton of roster upheaval. It would be an understatement to say that he left the cabinets largely empty.
This spring, nearly 20 new free agents were added, along with nine draft picks and eleven undrafted free players, under new general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn. That’s more than forty players that weren’t on the squad the previous year!
It’s reasonable to assume that when the season kicks off in Tampa on September 8th, Washington will start at least 12 new players.
It’s challenging to identify the main players that this club can develop around with so many new faces, many of whom are just on one-year contracts, and 20 rookies in the mix right now
in the coming times.
Although we haven’t seen any rookies play in an NFL game, it’s difficult to include them. However, Jayden Daniels, a rookie quarterback, will undoubtedly be included in this category.
In light of this, I have created a separate category for quarterbacks and then listed my five non-rookie players that I believe the next coaching staff can develop around.
Jahan Dotson: A subpar offensive line, terrible play calling, and erratic quarterback play may have contributed to the former first-round pick’s dismal second campaign. With high expectations going into his third season, Dotson has the potential to be a mainstay of this offense for many years to come.
Sam Cosmi: Although Cosmi doesn’t play one of the BIG 3 positions on the offensive line (LT, RT, or C), he is a young, developing left guard that the team can rely on going forward. He might receive a huge contract deal if he plays well once more this season.
Daron Payne: Payne, who will shortly turn 27, is starting his seventh NFL season.
years old. He simply needs the perfect circumstances and coaching to realize his All-Pro potential, which he still has in him. Dan Quinn now comes in!
Forbes, Emmanuel It would be hoped that a wide receiver selected in the middle of the first round would be a defensive mainstay for many years to come. Forbes had difficulty as a rookie, but a lot of people would blame him for that because of the bad coaching and plan. He might be a mainstay on this defense for many years to come if he can recover this year and demonstrate the play-making abilities for which he was selected. He might be able to make a living as a ball-hawking free safety if he stumbles at the corner again.
Quan Martin: People are raving about this GM Adam Peters and Dan Quinn appear to favor brains and leadership in a football player. Martin had a rough start to his first season but picked up steam as it went on. He can play a variety of defensive positions, such as dine linebacker, slot corner, and safety.
