SAD HIDDEN STRUGGLES: The Yankees’ Hiding Some Notable Players’ Struggles..

Gleyber Torres is in a crucial contract year, and he needs to deliver strong performances. Unfortunately, he has been underperforming significantly so far.

The 27-year-old second baseman was a standout in an otherwise struggling Yankees lineup in 2023, achieving a career-high 3.8 WAR. This season, however, his WAR has plummeted to a mere 0.1. A month into the season without a single home run, Torres urgently requires a significant turnaround.

Catcher Austin Wells also deserves a mention, facing a challenging start to 2024 in his own unique way. Sometimes, poor statistics stem from sheer bad luck, which seems to be the case for Wells.

He’s currently batting .159 for the year without any home runs. Despite sharing playing time with Jose Trevino, these figures are underwhelming. Yet, those following Wells closely this year would notice that he’s hitting the ball solidly—it just unfortunately tends to find the defense.

Torres, a fan favorite, is tough to watch during such a struggle. Thankfully, there’s a glimmer of hope—he has improved recently, hitting .333 with four RBIs in his last five games, doubling his RBI count from his first 24 games of the season.

The New York Yankees offense has seen multiple batters struggle to find consistency early on this season. Which hitters need to be better?
