Despite he is leaving Ohio State today Disappionment we be on Ryan Patrick Day
According to Kelly, he “never thought about quitting anything”
Last month, former UCLA coach Chip Kelly stunned the college football world by taking a job as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator instead of staying in a top league. This is an unprecedented move, especially in the dynamic world of college football. During his inaugural press conference at Ohio State on Tuesday, Kelly stated that the choice was based on personal satisfaction.
“All I want is happiness,” Kelly stated to the press. “And I’m thrilled to be a position coach. I am truly delighted to be here at Ohio State.”
Kelly claimed that his desire to coach at a lower level was revived by UCLA’s preparation for the LA Bowl game. Kelly filled in for Ryan Gunderson, the quarterbacks coach, who departed the Bruins to take a position as offensive coordinator at Oregon State. This was Kelly’s first experience working directly with a position group since his tenure as offensive coordinator at Oregon from 2007 to 2008.
“I think my wife remarked, ‘I haven’t seen you this happy in a long time,'” stated Kelly. “In my opinion, the football is the best aspect of football. Thus, you must focus on playing football rather than some of the responsibilities associated with being a head coach. And football is, in my opinion, the best aspect of football. Thus, you must play football and refrain from engaging in certain activities related to the head coaching contract.”
Bill O’Brien was hired by the Buckeyes in January of that year to serve as their offensive coordinator; however, he resigned to take a position as head coach at Boston College. Then, Ryan Day, the coach of Ohio State, went to Kelly, who had worked with Day as an assistant at New Hampshire in the late 1990s. Day worked for the 49ers in 2016 as an assistant to Kelly.
“It would have taken a special place for me to leave UCLA because I love those players, and I love that coaching staff,” Kelly stated. But to have Ryan here with you. We’ve had a wonderful partnership. Ryan and I went back to when he was a young child. Thus, it seems to me that a lot of things just clicked in that way.”
After six years and a 35-34 overall record, Kelly left Los Angeles. It happened right before the Bruins were getting ready to play in the 2024 season as members of Ohio State’s Big Ten. Although Kelly brushes off the myth that he abandoned the program at a period of change, some Bruins supporters have made such accusations.
Kelly declared on Tuesday, “I never thought about quitting anything.” “So I just, is there an opportunity that fit?”
Few days after Kelly left UCLA, longtime assistant coach DeShaun Foster was hired to take his position. Ten days before to starting at his alma institution, Foster was appointed as the running backs coach for the Las Vegas Raiders.
