The Dragons have announced centre Zac Lomax will not stay at the club beyond the 2024 season.

St George Illawarra have reached an agreement with Lomax and his management for his departure from the club at the conclusion of the current season.

A club statement has said while Lomax will fulfil his contractual obligations with the Dragons for the 2024 season, his contracted years for 2025 and 2026 will be terminated with no financial contribution to be made by the club in these years.

The club will only consider a release this year if a player of considerable standing is offered in return which coach Shane Flanagan is comfortable with.

“By finalising this decision now, it provides both Zac and the club with clarity regarding the future, allowing us time to strategise for the upcoming seasons,” Dragons CEO Ryan Webb said.

The Dragons, meanwhile, have also announced the extension of prop Francis Molo for a further two seasons, keeping the 29-year-old in the Red V until at least the end of the 2026 season.

The Cowboys have extended forward Sam McIntyre on a new a two-year deal which will see him remain at the club until the end of the 2026 season.

Arriving in North Queensland mid-way through the 2023 season after stints at the Wests Tigers Titans, the 26-year-old has earned a place in Todd Payten’s first-choice 17 after an impressive pre-season.

“Sam came to our club looking for an opportunity and has impressed everyone in the building through his professionalism, work ethic and what he’s done on the field both at Queensland Cup level and now in the NRL,” Cowboys General Manager Micheal Luck said.

“Sam is a big body, he’s skilful and he can play a number of positions and players with that versatility are tremendously valuable in today’s game.”
