Shocking: Brian Flores announced that he is leaving Minnesota vikings today after facing significant issue in the team….
Less than four weeks remain until this year’s draft, which could provide the Vikings with an opportunity to address that theoretical topic. The Vikings trade up to the No. 3 pick in a recent mock draft by Yahoo! Sports’ Nate Tice and Charles McDonald, giving them access to both Jayden Daniels and J.J. McCarthy. Although most in the media believe Daniels is a better prospect, McCarthy is selected by the Vikings in this mock draft.
If events transpired in this manner, Minnesota would have to make an intriguing decision. Drake Maye goes No. 2 to the Commanders here, even though many people think Daniels should be in that position. The Vikings then give the Patriots a haul, including 11, 23, and a future first, in order to acquire their player. Daniels, the current Heisman Trophy winner and thrilling dual threat, isn’t it, though. McCarthy is the controversial Michigan product who could be a better fit offensively for Kevin O’Connell.
The Patriots benefit greatly from the trade, acquiring Daniels at 11 and Brian Thomas Jr., one of his best wide receivers from LSU, at 23, in addition to gaining a future first round pick.
Daniels has a ton of promise because of his exceptional deep accuracy and rushing ability. But he carries some risk, just like any other potential. He’s already 23 years old, his short-area accuracy isn’t always there, and he took too many hard knocks while at LSU. McCarthy’s argument is that, even in Michigan’s run-heavy offense, where throwing volume is lower, he is still a strong athlete with exceptional arm talent who has had great third-down production in the past. McCarthy appears to be more highly regarded by the NFL than most would imagine, and there is some talk that the Commanders may select him with the second overall pick. Apart from his physical attributes, he possesses all the desirable intangible qualities in a quarterback.
It would be contentious to choose McCarthy over Daniels, particularly if Daniels somehow lost all fell as far as the Vikings’ original selection, as he appears to in this mock. However, in that case, it wouldn’t be all that shocking if O’Connell and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah took that course of action.
