The Blue Devils, led by superstar freshman Cooper Flagg, took down the No. 2 Auburn Tigers 84-78 on Wednesday night in Durham.

The undefeated Tigers entered the game with wins over the Houston Cougars, Iowa State Cyclones, and North Carolina Tar Heels on their resume, and voters thought they gave Kansas a reasonable challenge for the top overall spot in national rankings.

The Blue Devils took a few punches in the early minutes, falling in a 13-2 hole after the Tigers made five of their first six shots from the floor.

But they weathered the storm, rattling off a 28-11 run of their own thanks to freshman Isaiah Evans and his six 3-pointers.

From there, Flagg and junior guard Tyrese Proctor hit a few key shots in some big moments, and the Cameron Crazies would celebrate when the buzzer sounded.

Evans proved once again that he can be the ultimate shot of adrenaline for this Blue Devils team, even against elite competition.

The North Carolina native is a fearless shooter, and he let some outrageous looks fly during his first-half hot streak, but it’s easy to see why when he made six of the eight shots he took.

He reads the floor incredibly well, and his quick release lets him take advantage of any room he finds.

Evans also provided something head coach Jon Scheyer can’t teach: a spark plug.

When Evans made his second 3-pointer of the evening, he clapped his hands for a solid ten straight seconds as he retreated back down the court on defense.

He asked for the ball as soon as he reached the logo before he made his fourth.

He waved for the home crowd to get louder constantly, egging them on as much as he could.

That energy can completely change a game, and it did just that on Wednesday.
