The longtime fan favorite and former Wild forward still remains a free agent. Cal Clutterbuck skated in all 82 games last season for the New York Islanders. He recorded seven goals, 12 assists, 19 points, and 273 hits.
Clutterbuck, 36, has spent the last 11 years with the Islanders after spending his first six seasons in the NHL with the Wild.
The hard hitting winger has led the NHL three times for most regular-season hits. He recorded 356 hits in his rookie year (2008-2009), 318 from 2009-2010, and 336 again from 2010-2011.
In his Wild career Clutterbuck notched 62 goals, 48 assists, 110 points, 337 penalty minutes, and 1,457 hits in 346 games. Clutterbuck still holds the Wild’s All-time record for most career hits. Marcus Foligno is in second with 1,338 in 451 career games in a Wild sweater.
Given Foligno’s recent four-year extension, Clutterbuck’s Wild record will likely be broken as Foligno is only 120 hits away from passing him.
Clutterbuck currently holds the All-time NHL record for most career hits with 4,029. He is the only player in NHL history to have 4,000 hits or more. Matt Martin ranks second with 3,854 in 955 games. Martin is also a free agent currently.
Beloved Dewey1 has been a fan favorite ever since he fell during his rookie lap. He was the loveable butt of the joke, but he was a physical force that could push into the opponent’s zone to prepare for the first line to score. Losing him was devastating.
We all saw the writing on the wall. After going to arbitration last year for his salary, combined with the tight salary cap space and other players higher on the re-sign priority list, Duhaime knew it was almost impossible to stay in the Twin Cities. What made it even worse was how often he stated that he loved Minnesota and wanted to stay. He’s been back for bits of the summer to spend time with his former teammates.
