Former West Virginia University Football greats Pat McAfee and Pat White will serve as honorary game coaches for the 2024 WVU Gold-Blue Spring Football Game at Milan Puskar Stadium on Saturday, April 27 at Noon.
Both players played during one of the greatest time periods in Mountaineer Football history, 2005-08, recording a 42-9 record, two Big East championships, four bowl wins, including two BCS victories and spending numerous weeks among the top 25.
McAfee, who currently is one of the most popular figures in the sports media industry as a football analyst and talk-show host was an All-American punter for the Mountaineers from 2005-08 and also handled kicking and kickoff duties.
A two-time All-Big East performer, McAfee is the all-time scorer in school history (384) and all-time extra points leader and finished second in field goals made (58) and in punting average (44.7).
He was drafted by Indianapolis Colts in 2009 and spent eight years as the starting punter.
He was a two-time Pro Bowl selected, made the Pro Football Writers Association’s All-Rookie Team and was a first-team All-Pro in 2014. He led the Colts to an NFL Super Bowl appearance in 2010.
White is in his third season as an offensive assistant coach with the Los Angeles Chargers. He is one of the greatest players in WVU history.
He was a two-time Big East Offensive Player of the Year and was a three-time All-Big East quarterback.
He was the first quarterback in college football history to start and win four bowl games and finished as the NCAA career quarterback rushing leader (4,480 yards).
He finished his WVU career No. 1 in career total offense (10,529 yards), No. 2 in career passing yards (6,049) and touchdowns (56) and was the fifth player in NCAA history to rush and pass for at least 1,000 yards in multiple seasons. White was drafted in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins.
