The Milwaukee Bucks are 9-9 on the season after starting the year 2-8. Their slow start, which included a woeful six-game losing streak, had discouraged many fans who were expecting the team to be firing on all cylinders from Day One. Unfortunately, it took about a month for the team to find its groove.

However, the Bucks’ slow start was like an early Thanksgiving feast for national media members, who have detested the fact that two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmp consistently has signed extensions to stay in the league’s smallest market.

Despite the turnaround, some of these NBA writers are still trying to push the narrative that Milwaukee should or will trade Giannis, the greatest and most loyal player in franchise history.

Bleacher Report Suggests the Milwaukee Bucks Should Trade Giannis Antetokounmpo to the San Antonio Spurs

In an article in which he proposed four trades that would bolster NBA title contenders, Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report not only wrote that the Bucks should trade Giannis to the San Antonio Spurs, but that their recent winning ways have done nothing to improve their standing as one of the league’s biggest disappointments:

Milwaukee Bucks receive: Jeremy Sochan, Keldon Johnson, Malaki Branham, Zach Collins, a 2025 first-round pick (top-10 protected, via CHI), a 2027 first-round pick (via ATL), a 2030 first-round pick (via DAL), a 2031 first-round pick (via MIN) and a 2026 first-round pick swap (via ATL)

While the Bucks have course-corrected a bit from their disastrous start to the season, they still don’t appear anywhere close to contention. The best hopes they have are all tied to the fact they have Antetokounmpo on the roster, but that can’t be the best selling point for the two-time MVP himself.

A Wembanyama-Antetokounmpo pairing feels capable of almost everything—or actually everything if Wembanyama finds more consistency with his outside shot. Both are intimidating rim protectors who can comfortably (and capably) defend away from the basket. Offensively, either is a threat to pop for 50 points, both are unguardable around (and above) the rim and each offers enough creativity to generate shots for himself and his teammates.”

This trade proposal, while fanatical in that a pairing of Giannis and Wemby would be immensely entertaining, has no basis in reality.

 

How many times to the Bucks need to say that they will not trade the best player in franchise history? How many times does Giannis need to say that he never wants to leave?

With 18 games in the books, Milwaukee is in the fifth seed and just a game behind the New York Knicks for the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference. Furthermore, they are just three games behind the Orlando Magic for third.

 

With 64 games to play and Khris Middleton on the verge of returning, not only are the Bucks still contenders in the mediocre Eastern Conference, but they are one of the hottest teams in the league.

The fact of the matter, as stated, is that national media members cannot stand the fact that small market Milwaukee is relevant, and unfortunately these kinds of trade proposals will continue for the rest of Giannis’ career, which will be spent with the Bucks.
