WSFA – Montgomery, Alabama An event that combines fundraising, celebration, and remembering for the cause of kidney disease prevention, which is very important to many people.
“I underwent a kidney transplant in 2021,” stated Denise Riley Mitchell, Patient Chair of the Alabama Kidney Foundation. “Since then, it has been my goal to assist others in obtaining the capital and financial support required to combat kidney disease.”
Because Alabama, according to organizers, has the worst kidney disease statistics in the nation, the event is becoming even more significant there.
According to Shannon Morrell, regional director of the Alabama renal Foundation, “Alabama ranks #1 for kidney failure per capita.” “There is a great need in the River Region, where we live. They must continue their dialysis if they lose their employment. When they most need financial assistance, we simply step in and provide it.
Quinshon Judkins, an Ohio State standout running back and native of Pike Road, was also present and proud of his upbringing in a neighborhood that was making a difference.
“It’s been amazing to watch this community come together, support one another, celebrate, and unite for a cause that matters more than anything else,” Judkins said.
His goal is to have his own influence
This autumn, Jerry Kocan, the owner of Four Star Freightliner, a trucking firm, will donate $1,000 for each touchdown he scores to the Alabama Kidney Foundation. Kocan has had kidney disease himself.
Kocan remarked, “If you’ve seen this young man [Judkins], he’ll have a couple dozen.”
In response to the question of whether it will motivate him to throw a few more touchdowns this season, Judkins chuckled and answered, “Yes, absolutely.”
That sum will be added to the kidney walk campaign, which has already broken records. This year, the foundation set a goal of $185,000, and it has already raised more than $200,000.
Donations to the Alabama Kidney Foundation are accepted all year round in case you were unable to attend the event. Click this link to make a donation.
