Barnsley have re-signed defender Marc Roberts on a two-year deal.

The 33-year-old was a free agent after being released by Birmingham earlier this summer.

He joined Blues from the Tykes in July 2017, having helped his hometown club win promotion to the Championship in 2015-16.

“It was class the last time I was here. It was the best part of my career really,” he told the club website.

Roberts is the second member of Barnsley’s promotion-winning side from eight years ago to re-join the League One side this summer after midfielder Conor Hourihane signed a player-coach deal last month.

Charlton will host Birmingham City at The Valley on Tuesday, August 13th (KO 7.45pm BST) in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

The fixture will be the first time the club’s brand-new hybrid-stitched Desso pitch is played on in a competitive fixture.

For the first time ever, all Carabao Cup matches this season will be available for fans in the UK to watch on Sky Sports, with the Addicks clash to be shown live on Sky Sports+.

Ticket information for the cup clash will be announced in due course.

The agreement came into effect early last month and is set to run until December 2026, covering consulting, software development and support.

While there is little detail in the contract award notice, the new deal comes after long running problems with the implementation of a cloud based enterprise resource planning system from the company.

This caused a doubling of projected costs from an original level of £19 million to £38 million by April 2023, and has been attributed as a major factor in the city council’s financial problems, which led to the issuing of a section 114 notice in September of last year.
