Alex Faedo, a right-handed reliever, was added back to the Detroit Tigers’ active roster on Thursday. He replaces right-hander Keider Montero, who was optioned to Triple-A Toledo following his Wednesday afternoon multi-inning outing.
The Tigers selected 28-year-old Faedo (18th overall) in the first round of the 2017 draft after he was selected by the University of Florida. After making his debut in 2022, he spent 2023 bouncing between Toledo, the rotation, and the bullpen.

After making the team during spring training this year, he swiftly established himself as one of manager A.J. Hinch’s go-to players in a number of capacities. In his second big-league game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday, Montero gave up four runs, including a two-run home run, despite striking out six in 4 1/3 innings. The 23-year-old Venezuelan native made his major league debut on May 29 after being promoted to the 40-man roster in November of last year.
Enrolling as a youngster in 2016, Montero played his first two seasons of 2023 at Class A (advanced) West Michigan and Toledo. Over those three levels, he struck out 160 batters in 127 1/3 innings while only walking 49. He has had greater hardship in 2024, going 48 1/3 innings at Toledo with a 5.03 ERA, 54 strikeouts, and 30 walks.
