Christopher Bell is in a good mood. That’s what happens after back-to-back NASCAR Cup Series wins.

He’s particularly happy because Sunday’s finish at the Circuit of the Americas didn’t include any race-deciding crashes.

“I’m so proud of the way everybody raced each other at the end of that race,” Bell said Tuesday on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio.

“I would love to change the narrative of the Cup Series, of running into people and moving them out of the way.

I would love if this is a turning point for us, where we’re able to race respectfully and stay off of each other and make it less of a contact sport.

Bell had to work hard for a number of laps to time a pass of Kyle Busch, who seemed in control for much of the season half of the race.

Then in the final two laps, it was William Byron giving Bell a run for his money.

All the competing drivers managed to race without a lot of contact on the frequent turns at the road course.

Bell has been through every aspect of racing in the first three weeks. He crashed out of the Daytona 500, then needed overtime after an extended caution to win last week at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.

This time around, he and most other cars made it through action with a lot fewer scratches.

Some, like Chase Elliott after a first-lap spinout caused by Ross Chastain, might feel differently, of course. Some fans might also want to see those crash-laden finishes.

Speedway racing will likely continue to cause intense finishes for as long as winning a race guarantees a place in the Cup Series postseason.

But for now, Bell is smiling, and he’ll go for three-in-a-row at the Shriners Children’s 500 on Sunday at Phoenix Raceway.
