Breaking Boundaries: Ty-Laur Johnson Sends Shockwaves Through College Basketball with Unprecedented Move to Enter Transfer Portal!

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The last remaining scholarship player from the 2023-24 Louisville basketball team not to enter the transfer portal has now, in fact, announced his decision to enter the portal, according to Joe Tipton, national basketball reporter for On3Sports.

Ty-Laur Johnson, a freshman point guard who averaged 8.7 points per game, will look for a new destination. Though he was fifth on the team in minutes, he led the team with 109 assists and also had a team-high 41 steals. He was second on the team with 70 turnovers.

He struggled from the field, shooting just 19.4% from three-point range and 37.4% from the field overall.

Though every scholarship player from Kenny Payne’s final team, which posted an 8-24 record, has left the program, new coach Pat Kelsey has moved quickly to start replenishing the roster.

He signed 6-foot-2-inch shooter Reyne Smith, who played for him at Charleston, as did 6-foot-11-inch center James Scott, who signed with Louisville over the weekend.

On Tuesday, James Madison leading scorer and Sun Belt Player of the Year Terrence Edwards, a 6-foot-6-inc guard, was scheduled to visit Louisville. He averaged 17.2 points per game last season for the Dukes.

Whether any current Louisville players will opt to return to the team remains to be seen. Brandon Huntley-Hatfield is among Louisville players who have said returning is an option.
