Former Michigan Wolverines star quarterback Denard Robinson is no longer part of the team’s coaching staff, the school confirmed Tuesday.
Robinson, 33, was arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated after being involved in a single-vehicle crash just past 3 a.m. on April 15 in Ann Arbor. The crash happened about 1.5 miles south of Schembechler Hall, Michigan football’s headquarters, according to the Ann Arbor Police Department. Charges against Robinson are currently pending toxicology results, and a police report has not yet been made available by AAPD.
Robinson, who served as Michigan’s assistant director of player personnel, was initially suspended from the coaching staff but is now removed from his position.
Robinson was hired to Michigan’s coaching staff in February 2022 by former head coach Jim Harbaugh. He previously worked as a scouting assistant and quality control coach with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars, which he played four seasons for as a running back and wide receiver from 2013 to 2016.
Prior to playing for the Jaguars, Robinson played four seasons for Michigan from 2009 to 2012, including his final three as the Wolverines star quarterback. He finished sixth in voting for the 2010 Heisman Trophy award, which went to Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. The Deerfield Beach, Florida, native also was the cover athlete for EA Sports’ NCAA Football 14 video game – the most recent iteration of a college football video game until NCAA Football 25 is scheduled to be released this summer.
