Jones has spent the last six seasons with Blues in which she has successfully negotiated her way through the club’s youth ranks before going on to feature for the first team. The youngster made her Barclays Women’s Super League debut for Birmingham City in 2022 when she came off the bench to feature in a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City at St Andrew’s. Jones has gone on to be named in the Birmingham City matchday squad on 30 occasions.
With Birmingham City unable to guarantee Jones first team minutes this season, the player joined FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division club West Bromwich Albion on a dual-registration basis. She helped The Baggies to record a ninth-place finish. Jones made 12 appearances for West Bromwich Albion in all competitions.
The 63-year-old previously managed the Blues between 2001 to 2007 before moving to Wigan Athletic in controvesial circumstances. He was in the hot-seat for over 260 games, averaging 1.38 points per game. Since then, he has managed the likes of Hull City and had stints in the Premier League with Newcastle United and Aston Villa, with his most recent job being with West Bromwich Albion back in 2022.

Tony Mowbray replaced the former England international before his untimely departure on medical grounds just a few weeks later. Gary Rowett would finish the managerial merry go-round in a tumultuous season. As a result, the Blues suffered relegation to League One alongside Yorkshire duo Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United.
It is said that Bruce is ready to return to management after a two-year spell out the game, and he has already contacted his former employers to inform them of his interest.
Bruce would be an interesting appointment given how he left first time round, but his experience is invaluable. The Blues will be looking for stability following such changes this season. Having managed all over the country, he’s bound to have some good contacts to potentially attract the best players possible with the budget they have.
League One will not be easy to get out of with some brilliant teams in the third tier. Bruce’s experience may give them the edge over some of their rivals though. The same can be said for Mowbray, who looked to be on the verge of turning things around before he was forced to relinquish control. Hopefully, the 60-year-old can return but if not, the Blues’ former manager may be the next best option.
