The 26-year-old is entering the final year of his contract, worth $27.7 million, giving the Celtics flexibility to either clear cap space or explore potential trades.

“So, at a certain point in time, could Boston just move him? Yes. Are they actively looking to move him? I would say they’re actively open to moving him,” NBA insider Jake Fischer said during a live Bleacher Report YouTube stream.

“But I don’t think Boston is calling around trying to move Anfernee Simons right now,” he added. “I just think he and his representation are very aware that the Celtics are not married to having him start the season in green and white, but they’d be very happy and willing to do so if that’s the case.”

Fischer has also previously said he expects the Celtics to explore trade options for both Simons and forward Georges Niang in the near future.

Last season, Simons played in 70 games for Portland, averaging 19.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game. He shot 42.6% from the field and 36.3% from beyond the arc.

He has played seven seasons with the Trail Blazers.

On the court, Brown has felt he’s made sacrifices and altered his game in ways that he hasn’t always agreed with.

“I disagree with a lot of things,” he said. “I’ve had to change roles, styles. I’ve had to do things that other players of my talent just haven’t had to do, and I’ve been okay with them, because I’ve always been a team guy. I feel like sometimes that gets taken for granted.”

At the same time, he recognizes that all of it — the good and the bad — ultimately culminated in what’s long been his primary goal: Banner 18.
