If you believe Mecole Hardman, winning Super Bowl LVIII has only made him more of a target. Hardman has been under public scrutiny this week following allegations that he leaked New York Jets game plans to opposing teams when he played for Gang Green briefly during the 2023 season, prior to his trade back to the Kansas City Chiefs in October — for whom he caught the winning touchdown pass in Super Bowl LVIII.
Hardman had not offered a defense to accusations levied at him by — among others — star cornerback Sauce Gardner. That is, until Friday, when the three-time Super Bowl champion took to X (formerly Twitter) to denounce what he called attacks on his character
A controversy that had taken up much of the week began when Hardman appeared on a podcast and slammed the Jets’ culture following a deeply-disappointing 7-10 season in New York. The Jets, expected by some to compete for the AFC championship, never recovered after losing quarterback Aaron Rodgers to an Achilles injury in week 1, and the subsequent domino effect saw Hardman return to the Chiefs in an October trade — less than seven months after joining New York as a free agent.
