After an exhilarating season, the Pirates sign a polarizing former Yankee pitcher.
According to reports, Pittsburgh has signed the contentious former Yankees starter.
One former New York Yankee has already found a new place to call home.
After making his major league debut with New York in 2017, former Yankees pitcher Domingo Germán has been with the team ever since. He pitched a perfect game in 2023 and won eighteen games in 2019 to demonstrate his remarkable upside.
However, Germán did have some issues with New York. In 2019, he was suspended and placed on administrative leave by Major League Baseball on claims of domestic violence. In 2023, he was added to the restricted list as well, having left the squad to receive alcohol misuse treatment.
At the conclusion of the season, New York elected for free agency and placed him on outright waivers.
MLB insider Mike Rodriguez and the New York Post’s Jon Heyman claim that Germán has been searching for his next opportunity and that he has found it as he has reportedly signed a minor league deal with an invitation to Spring Training.
“Domingo Germán to Pirates,” Heyman declared. “Mike Rodriguez is invited to the Minor League Baseball camp.
In 2024, it wouldn’t be shocking if Germán was given a chance to play major league ball with the Pirates. In 2023, he had 20 appearances with New York and finished with a 4.56 ERA. Over his six big league seasons, he has a 4.41 career ERA.
Pittsburgh saw progress in 2023 and has the potential to surprise a few in 2024. With Pittsburgh, maybe, Germán can get back on track.
