PHOENIX (AP) — Right-hander Brandon Woodruff of the says he will not make an appearance on the field this season as he heals from surgery on his pitching shoulder.

Upon undergoing surgery in October, the Brewers announced that the two-time All-Star was anticipated to miss the most of the season, if not all of it. Woodruff stated to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he plans to make a comeback in 2025 and that he will not be pitching this year.
“To be honest, I’m going to be the strongest I’ve ever been in my career because I’m going to have a year to basically prepare my body for pitching,” Woodruff stated to the publication.
Woodruff, 31, missed four months of action due to a subscapularis strain in his shoulder but finished 5-1 with a 2.28 ERA in 11 starts the previous season. He He was unable to participate in the Brewers’ NL Wild Card series defeat to the Arizona Diamondbacks due to a recurrence of his shoulder injury late in the season.

The Brewers failed to extend a contract to Woodruff in November, allowing him to become a free agency. Woodruff was only under team control until the 2024 season and was predicted to miss a significant portion of that season due to injuries.
With a backloaded $17.5 million, two-year contract that includes a mutual option for the 2026 campaign, Woodruff returned to the Brewers in February.
