Top Prospect Loses to Injury for Milwaukee Brewers on Friday

The Milwaukee Brewers, who are already coping with a plethora of problems in the Major Leagues, have now lost top prospect Jeferson Quero to a minor league shoulder ailment.

Leading prospect Jeferson Quero departed Friday’s game early for Triple-A Nashville, adding to the Milwaukee Brewers’ minor league ailments, which they are already dealing with at the major league level.
After being out at first base, Quero seemed to injure his shoulder while diving back to the bag.

According to MLB.com, Quero, who is 21 years old and a highly regarded defensive catcher, will make his MLB debut this season. At the major league level, the Brewers are also battling with injuries to Wade Miley and Brandon Woodruff. Woodruff is anticipated to miss the entire season.

Quero, who has emerged as maybe the Minors’ top defensive catcher, was awarded a well-deserved Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove Award in 2023. Thanks to his right-knee-down stance, he can block and receive exceptionally well, and his framing can appear flawless. In addition, he was able to strike out 34.6 percent of Double-A basestealers with his arm strength and quick reflexes behind the plate; these abilities should assist him restrict rival running games during a period when baseball is seeing a surge in thefts.

After defeating the New York Mets on Opening Day (Friday), the Brewers are 1-0 for the year. On Saturday at 1:40 p.m. ET, the two teams will play one more. Veteran pitcher Luis Severino (NYM) will face off against DL Hall (MIL).
