Ole Miss Rebels linebacker Suntarine Perkins has been the apple of Pete Golding’s eye ever since the assistant was coaching for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

OXFORD, Mississippi Linebacker Suntarine Perkins of the Ole Miss Rebels has a unique bond with Pete Golding, his defensive coordinator.

The competition for the top recruit out of Mississippi was fierce between Ole Miss and Alabama ahead of early signing day for the 2023 class. Lane Kiffin and company’s first aim was to keep the best player in the state at home, but Golding was attempting to lure Perkins to T-Town while he was still with the Tide. Perkins ultimately chose the Rebels, and after the 2023 season, Golding also decided to take a long holiday in Oxford.

The native of Raleigh, Mississippi, was ready to talk with the local media on Thursday following spring practice, and he discussed his friendship with Golding.
“Coach Pete Golding is an amazing man,” Perkins said to the press. Really intelligent man. All I can say is that I’m happy he came here and that I can help with his defense.
Perkins was named Freshman All-SEC and Freshman All-American in 2023 after recording 38 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 5.5 tackles for loss, and one pass breakup as a true freshman. Strangely, he had two sacks in his best game early in the regular season versus Alabama. Perkins discussed how he had to get used to the Southeastern Conference’s faster tempo after graduating from high school.
