Shocking: Head coach Pat Murphy says goodbye as he comfirms this will be his last season at Milwaukee Brewers as he is now going to….
In their first-round playoff game on Sunday, the Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Indiana Pacers 109-94, handling them quite handily even without star player Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Pacers shouldn’t take the setback lightly, but it might be too soon to panic either. If nothing changes, they might end up taking an early vacation.
Aside from the fact that the Pacers lost without Antetokounmpo starting for the Bucks, a few other aspects of Sunday’s defeat stand out.
First of all, they seemed unprepared for the game and were frequently hit in the mouth by Milwaukee, losing 69-42 at the break. Secondly, they scored 94 points, which is their lowest total of the season, to go along with an appalling eight of 39 three-point shooting and a narrow victory in the points-in-the-paint contest (40-34).
Indiana won’t be facing the two-time MVP in this series, but they should focus on another player the remainder of the way. Before the first game, Bucks guard Damian Lillard didn’t appear to mind that he wouldn’t be able to play with Antetokounmpo. He then went on to have one of his best playoff performances ever.
Against the Pacers, Lillard was unstoppable, scoring 35 points in just the first half and going 6-of-11 from beyond the arc to finish hot. It’s only the fifth time in 62 postseason games, per Basketball Reference, that he has scored 35 points or more and made six or more three-pointers.
For the record, the Pacers are expressing all the right things in response to their Sunday defeat, with Myles Turner basically characterizing it as a teaching moment. He acknowledged that Indiana was taken off guard in Game 1 and stated that it is now his responsibility and the leaders of the club to ensure that they “respond” for Tuesday’s Game 2.
