Following their humiliation in Thursday’s series opener, the Tigers somewhat paid it forward on Friday night. After Detroit added three more runs in the fourth inning, Colt Keith got things started in the second with his first major-league home run. The Tigers cruised the rest of the way to a 6-2 victory after Kerry Carpenter, with his seventh home run of the season, increased the lead in the fifth inning.
Carpenter and Mark Canha each scored two runs, and Keith finished the game with two hits and two RBIs. Kenta Maeda pitched five scoreless innings in a fantastic comeback to the mound. Ten games behind the Cleveland Guardians for first place in the American League Central, the Bengals are in fourth place.
Two of the Blue Jays’ ten hits in the second game of the series came from Vladimir Gurrero Jr. and Bo Bichette, although Toronto left nine runners on base throughout the defeat. The Blue Jays are still 11.5 games behind the New York Yankees in first place in the AL East.
