Baltimore Orioles pitcher Trevor Rogers took his second loss in three starts since he was acquired in a trade last month.

Rogers allowed five runs in five innings in the Orioles’ 9-3 loss on Tuesday to the Washington Nationals at Camden Yards. The bullpen yielded four runs.

Anthony Santander hit his 36th home run in the Orioles’ defeat, while Ryan Mountcastle and Colton Cowser drove in runs.

Washington’s Andrés Chaparro doubled three times in his big league debut, almost overshadowing another four-hit game by rookie James Wood.

Chaparro became the fourth player in major league history with at least three doubles in his debut — the first since Nick Evans of the New York Mets hit three at Colorado on May 24, 2008.

Trades in baseball tend to be a matter of business. One team needs talent to help them win a title. Another has that player and needs players to build around for the future.

On the surface, that’s the deal the Baltimore Orioles made with the Tampa Bay Rays for pitcher Zach Eflin.

The right-hander was the starting pitcher the Orioles believe they needed to prepare for the postseason.

The price to get him was significant. Baltimore gave up three prospects — pitcher Jackson Baumeister, outfielder Matthew Etzel and outfielder Mac Horvath.
