Heartbreaking News: Jim Leyland Former Head Coach of Detroit Tigers just passed away at the age of 80……
Detroit TigersĀ president of baseball operations Scott Harris has made his first waiver claim of the 2024-25 offseason.
The Tigers claimed left-handed relieverĀ Bailey HornĀ off waivers from the Boston Red Sox on Friday night, adding him to the 40-man roster.
The 26-year-old still has two minor league options remaining.
Horn threw four pitch types in those 18 games: sweeper (60.1% of the time), four-seam fastball (23.8%), cutter (9.9%) and curveball (6.3%).
his fastball averaged 95 mph, but his sweeper had a below-average 20.5% whiff rate.
Most of Horn’s 2024 campaign was spent at the Triple-A level, in which he posted a 4.54 ERA with 24 walks and 50 strikeouts across 39ā innings in 30 games.
Joining the Tigers, Horn has entered his fourth organization since the White Sox selected him in the fifth round of the 2020 draft out of Auburn.
He has played in the minor leagues for the White Sox, Chicago Cubs and Red Sox.
In 2024, McKinstry hit .215 with four home runs, 24 walks and 69 strikeouts across 118 games.
He struggled in his first 74 games, hitting .175 with a .520 OPS, but he flipped the switch in his final 44 games, hitting .287 with a .776 OPS.
McKinstry also hit .429 (3-for-7) with two doubles, one homer, one walk and zero strikeouts in five postseason games, spanning nine plate appearances.
The Tigers value McKinstry āĀ a left-handed hitter who doesn’t have any minor league options remaining āĀ because he is at least an average defender at two outfield positions and three infield positions, including shortstop.
