Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Mykel Williams is viewed as a player that had an underwhelming season by ESPN NFL draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr.

“There might not be a player with more to prove this week at the combine than Williams,” Kiper wrote Tuesday for ESPN.

“He was considered a candidate to go in the top five and even potentially No. 1 when we first started building draft boards for this class back in August.”

Despite high expectations for his junior year, an ankle injury hampered Williams, causing him to miss games and play limited snaps. Nevertheless, he achieved career-best numbers in (5) sacks, (9) tackles for loss, and (2) forced fumbles.

He is now projected to go No. 17 to the Cincinnati Bengals where he would be a mid-first round pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

Kiper believes a good performance at the combine could prove Williams’ worthiness as an early first-round pick. With the recent history how Georgia players perform, watch out for Dawgs at the combine. However, Williams is still returning to full strength and won’t be participating at the combine. Instead, he is focusing on Georgia’s pro day.

“I decided to take the first two to three weeks (after the loss to Notre Dame) to rest my ankle and try to get it back under me. So that delayed my training, I got a late jump, and that’s why I’m going pro day instead of combine,” said Williams.
