Breaking News: Georgia bulldogs Head Coach Kirby Smart Finally Accept $280 Million Deal With Chicago Beers and Explain His Decision.

Kirby Smart’s mission to keep Georgia’s front seven among the nation’s most dominant units got another boost this week as the Bulldogs secured a commitment from the No. 13 defensive lineman in the class of 2026, James “J.J.” Johnson, who committed on June 28.

The 6-foot-3, 285 defensive lineman is the No. 11 ranked recruit in the state of Florida as he plays high school football for Northwestern High School in Miami, Florida. Johnson’s commitment vaults Georgia to the No. 2 recruiting class in the country, according to 247Sports.

Johnson comes to Athens alongside plenty of other talented defensive lineman in the class of 2026. The Bulldogs and defensive line coach Tray Scott has done a fantastic job recruiting elite talent to UGA as the Bulldogs have secured the commitment of PJ Dean, Carter Luckie, Preston Carey, Seven Cloud and Corey Howard. With all of these commits being taller than 6-foot-4 and more than 255 pounds, Kirby Smart has plenty of talent to continue producing NFL talents in the trenches.

Since taking over in Athens, Smart has built his program on suffocating defense and controlling the line of scrimmage. From Jordan Davis to Jalen Carter, the Bulldogs have stacked their trenches with elite talent, and the 2026 cycle looks like more of the same.
