According to several reputable sources, including ESPN insider and Michigan alum Adam Schefter, Sherrone Moore and Michigan are close to hiring Don “Wink” Martindale as defensive coordinator. The hire makes a lot of sense from a schematic standpoint, as Martindale is credited with developing the Baltimore Ravens’ defensive approach in recent years. As Michigan fans know, the previous two defensive coordinators – Mike Macdonald and Jesse Minter – came from Baltimore and learned a lot from what Martindale came up with. Martindale’s last stop was with the New York Giants, who have been up and down at best.
