LB Cody Barton is the Broncos’ replacement for Josey Jewell.

The Denver Broncos have found a replacement for free agency linebacker Josey Jewell, who was lost to the Carolina Panthers three days ago.

Cody Barton’s agent, David Canter, confirmed on Friday night that the linebacker and the Broncos have reached an agreement on a one-year contract.

According to Mike Klis of KUSA-TV, the one-year deal is valued “up to” $4 million; however, the linebacker’s base pay is still unknown.

2019 saw Barton (6-2, 237 pounds) join the Seattle Seahawks as a third-round selection out of Utah. Before making 11 starts in 2022, he spent his first three seasons as a special teams member and a backup linebacker.

Barton started 13 games with the Washington Commanders the previous season, recording 121 tackles, one interception, and one forced one pass break and one fumble. In 78 career games (29 starts), the 27-year-old linebacker has tallied 352 tackles, three interceptions, and two sacks.

Now, Barton is probably going to be the frontrunner to start in 2024 beside Alex Singleton. This season, Jonas Griffith and Drew Sanders will also be back.
