2024 NFL Mock Draft: QBs and WRs dominate early; trades upend Round 1
We have too much knowledge after a week at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. The testing results, workout logs, and late-night rumors will all be examined in order to determine how they may impact the selections on NFL Draft weekend.
Every year, trades upend the first round, and 2024 won’t be any different. I intended to include seven realistic deals in this mock draft, a few of which were in the top 10, to set up a chain reaction that would affect the rest of the first round.
There will be a lot of changes in the little over two months until the draft. However, in light of current knowledge and what I overheard in Indianapolis, here is a revised take at
Although it’s not a done deal, no one I spoke to at the combine had doubts that this will occur. One interesting scenario would be if the Commanders attempted to climb up to No. 1 in order to get Williams back home; I heard discussions about this possibility several times while I was in Indianapolis. In addition, the Bears may want to move down if they have identical rankings on several quarterbacks.
But based on what we now know, Williams going to Chicago is the most likely scenario.
There is disagreement among teams over the order in which to place the predicted top three quarterbacks. Adam Peters, the general manager of Washington, would he rather have Jayden Daniels or Maye on the team now that Williams is out?
At the combine, the most recent phase in their process, Peters, head coach Dan Quinn, offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, and quarterback coach Tavita Pritchard had a meeting with both Maye and Daniels. According to Peters, the key to making this decision is to get the “person” right, and the fact-finding mission is still in progress.
Would the Falcons be willing to give Kirk Cousins a sizable check after years of suffering under the pay cap? This is a belief shared by many in the NFL, which illustrates Atlanta’s desire to improve at quarterback. However, trading up to No. 3 seems like the Falcons’ best bet if Cousins decides to stay in Minnesota.
Once, owner Arthur Blank approved a transaction in which a huge haul of draft picks were given up in order to acquire a wide receiver (Julio Jones). If it means getting the upgrade at quarterback that his team has been lusting after, he won’t think twice about doing it again. Daniels—is he that guy? This is a very real possibility.3
Since the draft last year ended, Harrison has been the target of constant mockery from the Cardinals. To change things up a bit, I would like to replace Harrison with either Rome Odunze of Washington or Malik Nabers of LSU. Harrison, though, is still the front-runner to be the first non-quarterback selected, even in the absence of testing results.
Okay, let’s get cooking. The Chargers want to restructure the roster to meet Jim Harbaugh’s vision, which includes moving back and adding additional picks.
It’s luck favors the brave for the Bears. This is a comparatively cheap price to pay for a productive pass catcher who will contribute to wins from Day 1 and none of the top three receivers are sliding to No. 9. The Bears and Odunze combination was rumored to be the best fit in the draft, but only general manager Ryan Poles knows which receiver he would pick in this situation.
