ESPN REPORT: Running back Trevor Etienne announced his resignation and departure from the team….
The former pass catcher for the Georgia Bulldogs is a three-time All American, a two-time national champion, and is predicted by many to be selected among the first 10 picks in this month’s draft.
The 21-year-old led Georgia in receiving yards (714) and touchdown catches (6) in the previous season. He has been compared to Travis Kelce of the Chiefs, but one draft analyst believes he has get beyond a significant obstacle before he can start making a significant impact in the NFL.
TalkSPORT exclusively spoke with ESPN draft expert Matt Miller about the similarities to Kelce and the things that are often forgotten when talking about Bowers.
Miller observed, “He’s [Bowers] quite a bit smaller.”
That’s something that, in my opinion, is ignored. Travis, who is 6 feet 5 inches tall, has lost weight during the course of his career.
Brock Bowers weighed little over 240 pounds and was hardly 6 feet 1 inch tall. In fact, he appears quite undersized for the role.
“His 40-yard sprint time is probably between 4.6 and 4.7, which is really, really good. He is not, however, this exceptional athlete.
Bowers is regarded as one of the greatest tight ends in college football history and has a ton of potential.
Holding the record for the most receiving touchdowns in a single season at UGA with 13, he is the only player in history to have won the John Mackey Award twice, which is given to the best tight end in the country. The award was established in 2000.
Before the 2021 College Football Playoffs, Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken remarked, “Right away you can tell he only knew one speed.”
“He would be ahead of every other guy by ten yards.” He was putting himself out there like he did, and that is a rare quality—working at his own pace to be the best version of himself.
“So you could see this straight away.” The man is unique.”
Bowers is one of the most well-rounded tight end prospects to ever enter the NFL, according to a PFF scouting report.
“He possesses exceptional after-the-catch ability because of his build-up speed, which is advantageous for the NFL. In addition, he possesses some of the strongest tight end hands you’ll ever see.
He may be the strongest tight end you’ll find for the money when it comes to blocking.
In addition, the study states that Bowers is a fantastic tight end prospect despite being on the smaller side.
“Add in his reliable blocking ability on the line and in space, and you have an ultimate chess piece offensive weapon with All-Pro potential.” It’s unclear where Bowers ends up, but in a few mock selections, the New York Jets were rumored to select him at No. 10.
“With the team in win-now mode and Aaron Rodgers nearing the end of his career, the Jets could opt to take a pass catcher who can dominate the middle of the field,” writes NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks in his most recent mock draft.
Similarly, NFL.com’s Chad Reuter thinks Bowers might play in New York the following season.
“The Jets focused on the top tight end in this class after acquiring Mike Williams, a seasoned receiver, at last. Bowers would be a great blocker for Breece Hall and a target for Aaron Rodgers, according to Reuter’s report.
Fascinatingly, In the most recent mock draft from CBS Sports, Bowers and Kelce are paired to play for the Chiefs at pick No. 32.
“If Brock is sitting here at 32, that’s the easiest pick for me” says it.
“Travis Kelce will provide him with an opportunity to learn from someone who makes a difference.” His heir apparent is waiting for him in the building’s wings, ready to take over when Travis Kelce decides to hang up the cleats and prepare for his induction into the Hall of Fame.”
Although Bowers still has a ways to go before he can match Kelce’s Hall of Fame career, there is undoubtedly promise.
