Kenton believes that Warner is similar to Manchester United legend Ferdinand in the way he reads the game and puts out fires before they become a danger in the defensive final third.
He admits that comparing him to the former England centre-back is a big statement, but believes the young defender has a real chance of staying in Norwich’s first team in the coming weeks. The former Norwich defender told BBC Radio Norfolk:
“I know it’s a huge statement to say that someone as good as Rio, one of the best English defenders we’ve ever produced, he’s that kind of player, as a player. Modern football player, very good with the ball. , very calm and reads the game well.
“You saw the way he stepped up at times tonight and blocked what looked like some of Fulham’s goals, he’s got that in his locker.
“Norwich are used to producing these defenders and if he does what he did tonight over the next three or four weeks he could have a chance of staying in the first team.”
Warner hopes David Wagner will consider him when choosing the team to face Birmingham City at Carrow Road on Saturday.
