Ime Udoka is enjoying a hot start with the Houston Rockets this season.
But the shadow of his Celtics scandal in the last season still looms large.
Udoka’s firing, which occurred just as they were on the verge of being eliminated by the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference finals, shocked the Celtics.
He was not fired because he lacked the coaching skills, but rather for an alleged improper relationship.
After being nine years as an assistant, Udoka joined the Celtics as a head coach for the 2021-22 season.
He led the Celtics to the NBA finals when they fell short of one game to the Warriors.
It was an “intimate and consensual relationship with a female member” of the team’s staff, as reported by Us Weekly, and was also a violation of the NBA’s code of conduct. So when Ma$e prompted Cam’ron if it was more than one person.
Cam’ron nodded with a big affirmation and said, “Yeah yeah it started getting a little crazy.”
Udoka’s suspension shocked the Celtics’ locker room.
Everybody thought it was a wild overreaction and could have been resolved internally.
The Houston Rockets immediately hired Udoka, and he is successful with the team.
The Rockets were the worst team in the last season at 22-60.
After multiple attempts at rebuilding, they are getting down to business speeding up their timeline.
Udoka coached as an assistant under Spur’s Gregg Popovich.
Rap moguls Cam’ron and Ma$e weigh in on the controversy on the new podcast episode of “Come And Talk 2 Me”.
They emphasized that the scandal wasn’t the affair itself that got Udoka fired, but who he had it with.
While the Spurs have lost 17 straight games, the Rockets are giving tough competition in the West.
With the offseason additions of Dillon Brooks and Fred VanVleet, the Rockets can push for the playoffs.
After winning against the Spurs today, the Rockets are now on 10 10-game home-winning streak.
Despite the scandal, Udoka seems to have emerged clean from the public perception and has proved that he can still coach.
