Fletch and Hindy took aim at Broncos veteran Corey Oates, with the trio trading hilarious barbs and sledges regarding the winger’s position in the club’s top 17.
The 29-year-old lost his place in the team to rising star Deine Mariner at the start of the year, but has since won a spot on the bench across Brisbane’s past two games.
In a hilarious segment filmed during pre-season and aired on The Late Show With Matty Johns on Thursday, Fletch and Hindy poked fun at Oates’ claims he considered retiring from the NRL in 2022.
“If you asked me a while ago I would have been pretty hesitant (to keep playing) because I wasn’t feeling great, but that’s because I was doing bugger all for myself,” he said ahead of the club’s 2023 campaign.
However, the flyer went on to re-sign for the 2023 season before earning an extension in November last year to continue his tenure for 2024.
It remains to be seen whether his deal will continue next season, but that didn’t stop Fletch and Hindy from sledging Oates.
“You were going to retire last year,” Fletcher said.
“I didn’t say that. Where’s the quote?” Oates replied.
“The quote was this ‘I think it was disrespectful for an offer of $450,000’. $450,000 and that’s disrespectful?
“Give us the quote, come on, that’s just your rubbish handwriting, show me the piece of paper,” Oates said.
“2023 was a sure year for me, that was your quote, what about 2022? 2019? 2020?” Hindmarsh said.
Oates was allocated to the Burleigh Bears, the Broncos’ new feeder club in 2024, providing more ammunition for several hilariously-brutal barbs.
