DENVER — Vikings wide receiver Bisi Johnson, who missed all of 2021 with a torn ACL, will miss all of this season after tearing the ACL in his other knee, a source said on Sunday.
Johnson was injured in the third quarter of Minnesota’s 23-13 loss to Denver on Saturday in the preseason finale at Empower Field.. After the game, head coach Kevin O’Connell feared the worst.
“Obviously we’re going to do some more testing,” O’Connell said afterward.. “I don’t think it’s okay at all.. .. We’ll make sure he sees our doctor and he gets back to us and we get him evaluated as quickly as possible.
He had a very, very good training camp and did everything we asked of him over and over again.. It’s really unfortunate out there.
Tests conducted Sunday confirmed that Johnson suffered another torn ACL.. Johnson was injured in training camp last season and was placed on injured reserve in his third NFL season.
Johnson, 2019 seventh-round pick.. had 45 catches for 483 yards in his first two seasons.. He is from Lakewood, Colorado, a suburb of Denver, and is playing his first NFL game in his hometown.
“In my opinion, (Johnson has) earned the right to be a part of our football team,” O’Connell said after Saturday’s game.
Johnson was one of several Denver players injured in the Finals, but the other injuries were not serious.. Defensive midfielder T.Y.. McGill (ankle), defensive back Troy Dye (foot) and receiver Jalen Nailor (concussion) all lost the game in the first half.
O’Connell said Dye aggravated the wound he suffered during a gunfight Thursday.. Before going down in the second half, O’Connell said Nailor showed “real flashes” in the match and “had a really solid side”.. He had a 16-yard catch against the Broncos.. Vikings
rookie quarterback Brian Asamoah suffered a leg injury early in the game, but was able to return to play.. O’Connell said Asamoah, a third-round pick, is guaranteed to make the 53-man roster..
