The Las Vegas Raiders may be without All-Pro kicker Daniel Karlsson for Monday’s game against the Detroit Lions.
Karlsson suffered a groin injury last week against the Chicago Bears, but he missed practice Thursday and Friday and was limited in practice Saturday.
The Raiders’ final injury report for Week 8 released on Saturday listed him as questionable for Monday..
Raiders coach Josh McDaniels was confident in his veteran kicker’s self-evaluation when addressing the media before Saturday’s practice in Las Vegas.
“With him (Carlson), I believe he knows his body and his situation better than anyone,” McDaniels said.
“He’ll do what he needs to do today to kind of make an assessment, and then we’ll figure out if that’s something we’re going to give two more days and give it a shot or not.. It’s a little tricky with a kicker based on if you don’t necessarily want to dress a backup if you will.
“So, making a call on that is probably what we’re going to do one way or the other, but today it’ll be important..”
The Raiders signed kicker James McCourt on Wednesday if Carlson cannot go Monday.
“Yeah, he’s [McCourt] had a good week and fits in with our guys,” McDaniels said.
“He’s done a really good job in practice, strong leg.. He worked with our snapper and holder and got a lot of reps.
So he really likes what he’s been doing and he’s going to be available whenever we need him..’
The 2-year-old kicker briefly played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, but eventually He was released as part of roster cuts in August.
He hasn’t played in a regular season game yet.
If Karlsson misses Monday, it will be the first time he has missed a regular season game since his rookie season in 2018.
