The Golden State Warriors (5-2) and Detroit Pistons (2-5) square off Monday in a David vs. Goliath matchup with tip-off from Little Caesars Arena set for 7 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Warriors vs. Pistons odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.
Season series: First meeting; Detroit won 2-0 last season
The Dubs fell 115-104 in Cleveland Sunday as they shot just 36% from the floor. They were outscored 58-24 in the paint and outrebounded 54-44. G Stephen Curry led the squad with 28 on 8-for-16 from the floor and 7-for-11 from deep. The rest of the team shot 26-for-78 (33.3%).
The Pistons were throttled by the Phoenix Suns, 120-106, Sunday at home. Detroit actually shot 49% from the floor, but Phoenix was 26-for-29 from the charity stripe, which was the difference. The Pistons have lost 4 in a row.
Both teams are playing on the back end of a back-to-back so we could see someone unexpectedly out of the lineup, which could throw things off. I don’t have the confidence to pick Detroit, but I also wouldn’t advise taking Golden State at -250 after they lost to the Pistons twice last year.
The Warriors are 3-4 ATS this season but 3-2 on the road. They also have a 4-1 record straight up on the road. This spread is absolutely manageable as long as Curry isn’t a late scratch.
Both meetings last season cashed an Over. The Warriors are 2-5 O/U and have alternated Overs and Unders cashing in the last 4 with the Under coming through in the last game. Detroit is 4-3 with Overs cashing in the last 2 and 4 of the last 5. The Warriors are 15th at 115.6 points per game, and the Pistons are 20th with 109.4 per game.
