Seattle Seahawks quarterback Brett Rypien is being signed off the practice squad by the New York Jets, per reports Tuesday from NFL insider Josina Anderson.
The Jets are releasing Tim Boyle, who started at quarterback for the team in Sunday’s 13-8 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
The Jets recently designated star quarterback Aaron Rodgers to return from IR. He’s started participating in practice but doesn’t appear set to make a miraculous return just yet after suffering what was thought to be a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills.
As for Rypien, he wasn’t a Seahawk for long after signing to the practice squad on Nov. 8. He started for the Los Angeles Rams against the Green Bay Packers on Nov. 5 in a 20-3 loss at Lambeau Field.
He went 13 of 28 passing in that game for just 130 yards and an interception, but the Seahawks apparently saw something they liked and signed him to the practice squad after the Rams had released him on Nov. 7.
In his career, Rypien has played in 10 games and gone 98 of 168 passing for 950 yards, four touchdowns and nine picks.
He’ll now look to put together some solid performances with a Jets team that is currently on a five-game losing streak.
After holding a respectable 4-3 record headed into Week 9, the Jets have tumbled to a 4-8 record and are now all but certain to miss the playoffs.
As for the Seahawks, they’ll visit the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in a pivotal NFC West battle.
