The No. 4ย Alabama Crimson Tideย football team sees its fifth player officially enter the transfer portal on Monday.
Defensive lineman Anquin Barnes Jr. has reportedly put his name into the transfer portal according to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports.
Barnes came to the Crimson Tide as a 4-star recruit out of Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, Ala. in the class of 2021. 247Sports considered him the No. 55 defensive lineman in the class and the No. 16 player in the state of Alabama.
He didn’t see any playing time as a true freshman and opted to redshirt. As a redshirt freshman he once again didn’t see the field but in 2023, as a redshirt sophomore, he played in two games. Barnes played against the MTSU Blue Raiders in the season-opener and against the Chattanooga Mocs in November.
The 6-foot-5, 315 pounder will have two more seasons of eligibility remaining to contribute to a college program.
He chose Alabama originally out of high school over Auburn, Florida, Georgia and other SEC schools.
Barnes is the second defensive lineman to enter the transfer portal in the recent days, joining Isaiah Hastings and leaving the Crimson Tide now with 12-scholarship lineman for Rose Bowl practice.
He joins Hasting, Thaiu Jones-Bell, Tyler Buchner and Ja’Corey Brooks as players who have entered the transfer portal from Alabama.
Jones-Bell was not on the roster this season and Buchner enters the portal looking to play lacrosse.
