Texas coach Steve Sarkisian provided an update on his star receiver after the game during ABC’s post-game interview on the field.
Worthy, who has yet to miss a game this season despite dealing with minor ailments over the past few weeks, had to be helped back to the locker room with his arm around two Texas athletic trainers.
He was later seen on the sideline using crutches with a boot on his left ankle. He finished the game with six catches for 86 yards.
During the regular season, Worthy posted 67 catches for 883 yards and five touchdowns.
He also added 21 punt returns for 358 yards and a touchdown. His return yardage total was the most in the country this season.
Should Worthy miss any time for Texas’ next game, the Longhorns will continue to rely on receivers Adonai Mitchell and Jordan Whittington along with tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders.
All three had big days in Saturday’s win, helping Quinn Ewers break the Big 12 Championship passing record with 452 yards and four touchdowns.
Murphy said in a phone interview that he will not be with the Longhorns in the College Football Playoff, a decision he said was wrenching for him.
“I hate it, I hate it,” Murphy told ESPN. “I’m super invested in this team. Everything that we’ve done along the way and all the work we’ve put in together, it’s hard to walk away, especially at this point during the season.”
Murphy immediately will become one of the most sought-after players on the transfer portal market. He’s a redshirt freshman who’ll be immediately eligible and have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
