Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett is recovering from the minor surgery he had to repair his high ankle sprain.
As the team fights for a playoff spot, they will have to do so with Mitchell Trubisky under center. However, new details have emerged on a timeline of when Pickett could see the field again.
Pickett is pushing to play in week 17 against the Seattle Seahawks. NFL insider Ian Rapoport had this to say about the situation.
“My understanding is he’s pushing to play next week, which would be incredibly quick – less than three weeks after tightrope surgery. And sure, if he can pass the agility test, the pain test, he could potentially play.
But my understanding is this is supposed to be more like in college when he had tightrope surgery. He played 26 days later. That would put him on track to play Week 17 against the Seahawks.”
There are some benchmarks that the former first-round pick has to pass but this has happened to Pickett before. He had a similar injury in college and played 26 days later.
That does put him on track to play in week 17. While Pickett has had his struggles this year, he is the best quarterback they have on the roster.
The AFC has a bunch of teams that could make the playoffs. As of this moment, all the teams between six and eleven in the conference could feasibly make the postseason. For the Steelers, it all comes down to whether their offense can produce points.
T.J. Watt is one of the best defensive players in the league and can swing games. They simply need their offense to be able to sustain drives and score at least 20 points.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have the inside track thanks to their early season success. However, they have to keep winning if they are going to want to make the postseason.
