Nebraska coach Matt Rhule said he was “sad and disappointed” by the news of Husker tight end Arik Gilbert’s arrest.
Gilbert was arrested for an alleged burglary from a smoke shop in Lincoln early Tuesday morning
Around 2 a.m., Lincoln police responded to a burglary call at SJ’s Liquor and Vape Shop, near 26th and O streets, according to authorities..
Officers found a glass door had been shattered by large cement chunks and saw Gilbert walking toward the exit with a bag, Lincoln police said.
Lincoln police said the total value of the stolen items in the bag was more than $1,600, including vape products, Delta 8, cigars and lighters.
“We’re going to help him through some of the issues he’s dealing with in his life, have been really proud of the job he had done in the spring and summer. But to be honest, during camp, he said he’s had some struggles. He’s working to overcome them,” Rhule said.
Gilbert transferred to Nebraska this offseason after playing for Georgia in 2021-22 and LSU in 2020.
Rhule also discussed the Huskers’ upcoming game at Minnesota, including the depth chart, fair catching kickoffs and more.
