Prospect for the New York Giants Draft: EDGE Turner Dallas
One of the top edge defenders available in the 2024 NFL Draft may be the New York Giants’ pick.
Dallas Turner, a 2021 recruiting class standout talent out of St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was regarded as one of the best EDGE prospects. According to the composite rankings, Turner was placed ninth nationally, first among EDGE, and second among players in the state of Florida.
Outstanding initial step off the edge that will enable him to easily get past less physically strong tackles
His impressive length (80th percentile arm length and 88th percentile wingspan) helps make up for his unimpressive height (21st percentile).
possesses a ghost rush reminiscent of a young Von Miller. To punch and duck beneath the tackle, bait it.
quickly takes up space due to his explosiveness
is a fluid athlete with great edge-bending flexibility.
displays a long arm, a bullrush, and a swipe from his toolbox.
He benefits from lateral agility on wide-breaking plays.
able to get his hands while interacting with a blocker by using his length
His capacity to work broadly and beneath obstacles, then turn around and work inward when they overcommit
must gain weight in order to become more than just a pass-rush expert. There shouldn’t be any issues with his build.
He doesn’t really know how to go further into the toolbox to break down blocks on that rep if his initial attempt fails.
Needs to be more forceful in stopping the run; it seems too easy to merely interact and take up blocks rather than shedding
must use his hands more skillfully; he misses his chop too frequently.
He can occasionally be overwhelmed by tackles that make good contact with him.
For speed-to-power to be more reliably effective, it must be improved.
Turner has demonstrated a great deal of skill as a pass-rusher thus far in his career, and it is evident that he prioritizes that aspect of his skill set. He has to build strength and put on some weight, but with his body, those things shouldn’t be too difficult.
His floor is still, I’m very sure, that of a productive pass-rush specialist, and his ceiling would be double-digit sack productivity as a dependable all-around player.
