Burton moved about in high school even though he only played at Georgia and Alabama for his collegiate career. He said in 2019 that he was moving to IMG Academy in Florida from Calabasas High School in California. He undid his transfer a few weeks later.

Before that, Burton was a player for Happeville Charter in Georgia. From 2017 to 2021, Burton has a lengthy history of playing for several different schools, making stops with at least five clubs.
