Jon Scheyer fears the worst as duke blue devils key player suffers neck injury….

Not good at all for the Pelicans’ prospects.

The New Orleans Pelicans are still in the playoffs, but they will need to defeat the Sacramento Kings at home this Friday in order to move on from the Play-in Tournament stage to the actual postseason. As if that weren’t difficult enough, the Pels will also have to succeed without Zion Williamson, who is by far their best player when he’s on the court.

The hamstring injury that prompted him to miss the waning minutes of last Tuesday’s 110-106 home loss to LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in a Play-in tournament contest has already ruled the former Duke Blue Devils star out of the Kings game. Williamson made a strong impression in his playoff debut before leaving the game. In just 36 minutes of playing time, he led the Pelicans with 40 points on 17/27 shooting from the field, while also dishing out five assists, a steal, a block, and 11 rebounds.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN points out that even if the Pelicans manage to defeat De’Aaron Fox and the Kings, they will probably be without Williamson’s services for the duration of the first round. One reason is that the Oklahoma City Thunder will play the winner of the Pelicans vs. Kings game, and it is difficult to picture New Orleans defeating the Western Conference’s top seed in the absence of Williamson.

“Serious enough that this is most likely the final time we will see him for the season. He won’t play against Sacramento on Friday. He’s also almost eliminated from at least a first-round series. So, it’s difficult to see New Orleans winning that series without Zion Williamson, even if they triumph and must travel to Oklahoma City. Wojnarowski

declared when making an appearance on NBA Countdown.

40 points was his greatest performance of the season, considering the situation and the stakes. The Lakers were unable to respond to him. He asks out with three minutes remaining in the game. And that hamstring injury was shown by the MRI today. And Wojnarowski continued, “I think we have seen the last of him this year.”
