JUST IN: Giants coach gives update on superstar’s unusual illness-farewell as he set to….
New York Giants outside linebacker Brian Burns was acquired in a trade this offseason from the Carolina Panthers. He signed a five-year contract extension with the Giants after he was traded from the Panthers. New York will look to be very good defensively this season.
Brian Burns is 26 years old. A season ago with the Carolina Panthers, he had 50 total tackles, eight sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and two pass deflections. Carolina had a chance to trade him to another team before the NFL trade deadline last season, but they decided to trade him this offseason instead and it received a lot of criticism from NFL fans.
On Saturday, Burns was at the Dexter Lawrence II Charity Softball Game in Pamona, New York. Brian Burns said about the defense this upcoming season by saying“Having somebody opposite of me, they’re pretty much going to have to pick their poison onwho they’re going to key or slide to. With Dex demanding so much attention and Kayvon alsodemanding attention, it’s going to free us up a lot.”
Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and Dexter Lawrence will be the core of the Giants’ defense this season. Lawrence is one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL. Last season, he had 53 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, and two pass deflections.
Thibodeaux was in his second NFL season last year and improved big time for New York. He got off to a slow start and heard it from the Giants fanbase, but produced after that. Kayvon Thibodeaux had 50 total tackles, 11.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and four pass deflections last season.
Thibodeaux was the first player to record double-digit sacks when Wink Martindale was the defensive coordinator, but the Giants parted ways with him this offseason. Shane Bowen is the new defensive coordinator for the New York Giants this season. Hopefully, this change will help head coach Brian Daboll out this season. There will be other key pieces on the defense this season like cornerback Deonte Banks, and linebackers Micah McFadden and Bobby Okekere.
Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns will be the starting outside linebackers for the New York Giants. It has the potential to be a very good group for the Giants. Hopefully, New York’s offense doesn’t go three-and-out every drive and burn out the defense this season. The Giants’ defense will be bent on getting after the quarterback this season.
